Container Weight Verification - 01Jul2016 - IMO Circular MSC. 1/Circ. 1475    25 May 2016

Pursuant to recent amendments to the International Maritime Organization's (IMO) Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) Convention, shippers will be required to provide ocean carriers with a certificate of verified gross mass (VGM) for each loaded marine container tendered for shipping. SOLAS requires that shipper showing in the bill of loading is responsible for ensuring that the verified gross mass is communicated in the shipping documents sufficiently in advance to be used by the ship's master or his representative and the terminal representative in the preparation of the ship stowage plan. In the absence of the shipper providing the verified gross mass of the packed container, the container should not be loaded on to the ship. more »

New illegal logging Legislation will come into effect on 30Nov14. The products covered by this regulation will be chapters 44, 47, 48 and 94. This includes, but will not be limited to wooden furniture and other wooden products. The legislation is implemented to verify that timber used for the manufacture of these products has not been illegally logged.
